Path of Stones - Harmony of Man and Land

Project description

A mental path on which I have started to take all the impacts and emotions that had effected me so far to a higher level of consciousness and as a result, I began to see the world like never before. With the aging of sense I discovered different layers of the land so as a result, my dissertation is in fact a recognition and resurrection of a latent layer slumbering deeper than the others. There are several church ruins from the Arpad era in the region of Balaton-felvidék and all are in particular situations. Some of them are highly outstanding even these days. Others, however, have been entirely neglected. Because of the great number of objects to investigate on, in the course of my mental-experiment I was only handling a narrower assortment during the period of research. From the beginning of this year I wandered around the land to see all the ancient ruins and in the case of the pandemic situation I had the chance to design my plan in situ. This experience made me realize that their existence is still unbroken. When I was studying the ruins in the Kál Basin I had to ask the question if there is an attitude with which one can affect the milieu of the ruin in a way that it wins back its place in the whole. Are there any simple means that could help by their natural character in this process? Are these means recognizable in their deserted nature or shall they be revitalized? Harmony of man and land exists, but is it possible to create a borderline between them, with the instruments of architecture, that is more mental than material? At the site, architecture is the manifestation of the landscape's power lines, the created forms and spaces are only additional excesses of the recognition. The built structure - which sets off to support the process of familiarization - runs along the borderline of the field and the hill sweeping over the landscape to find the most sheltered place. The path decomposes to three parts. The first pulse is for arriving and settling. The second part gives place for two buildings providing a sheltered space for the main inner life. Both of them appealing simultaneously inwards and outwards from the aspect of human and land, too. The third part is a farm house that stands for the physical world. When designing the built environment of the site in order to accommodate to the land the main guiding principle was to aim for simplicity, to seek after local materials and to rely on architectural answers of past ages.

Author's presentation text

I once set off on a path. I keep moving forward, with more and more consciousness, more and more experience. My personal existence defines me, architecture is my means of expression. I think I’ve already found my place in the world, and I’m just starting to get to know my own place more and more deeply. Every person strives for something. I try to move towards completeness, to live with the landscape in the unity of existence.
