Traian Arena, Râmnicu Vâlcea - Transformation into a place for the community
Project description
The starting point of the project is the desire to capitalize an unused space in the central area of Râmnicu Vâlcea. Given the situation of a former sports complex in the city center that includes a summer theater, a standing platform, a concrete platform that was used until recently for shows and sports, and other such platforms for various sports, there is the question of recovering this space, which at the moment it is abandoned and invaded by spontaneous vegetation. There are two main reasons why I chose this site. The first, perhaps the most powerful one, is that this place is part of my childhood universe, growing up 2 blocks away. The second, much more pragmatic, but which came to confirm the first reason, is that the site has greatly deteriorated lately and is considered by the local administration as the next object of interest, being ranked No. 4 in the City Development Strategy, the first 3 objectives being already underway. The strong contrast between the area of intervention and neighborhood, the situation of the place - not integrated in the city - and the lack of quality public spaces in the area are the reasons why I have decided that the main program of intervention is an urban square. Also, programs adjacent to the public space will focus on artistic, cultural, sports and commerce activities. The components of the proposal are: underground parking and pedestrian route standing platform and stage the square and the new building pedestrian route, pavilions and several squares
Author's presentation text
Graduate of the University of Architecture and Urbanism Ion Mincu, class of 2019, I got involved in various projects through the student association I’MUAU, which helped me develop group working skills and also tought me how to ingeniously combine scraps of materials seemingly unusable in order to create objects. I also completed my training with an 8-month internship at the Staghaus office in Bucharest and after graduating at the TDB Arquitectura office in Barcelona. Thus I was able to experiment the professional environment from both my home country and abroad. I am currently working at the City Projects Architects office.
