Graduation projects
Balneo-physio-therapeutic recovery center. Extension of Sylva Villa
Project description
Both the process of diversification of the thermal activities and the rehabilitation of the patrimony are fundamental aspects of the diploma project. I chose to intervene on a representative building in Govora Baths, which is in an advanced state of degradation, but due to its location, architectural features and its relationship with the promenade and the city, it benefits from a huge unexploited potential. The project proposes the creation of a secondary urban scale, generating a much better alternative for enhancing the tourist network's dynamic network. The choice of the program is based on the lack of characteristic medical functions that represent a deficiency in the continuity of the specifics of the thermal activities. The insertion of a special endowment, such as a balneo-physio-therapeutic recovery center, plays not only the activator of the city but also regional attractiveness. From the architectural point of view, the main two projects are to revitalize the public space of the resort by making use of the city's new promenade, its connection with green spaces and the forest, generating the connection between the two inactive poles of the city and re-qualification the existing spaces in order to enhance the resources of the balneary patrimony through the functional adaptation of the villa and its restoration, but also by the insertion of a new building adapted to the local typo-morphological specificity, which contains the functions of the recuperatory clinic and the public spaces offered to the city. The new building attempts to fit into the context built by taking the gallery / portic element from two points of view: firstly, the covered open spaces are characteristic of the local architecture of the villas that are often surrounded by overlapping wooden galleries, the whales are usually colonnades, the spa park contains several types of lightweight coating structures; Secondly, in Băile Govora there is a certain typology of villas and accommodation structures - the veranda / gallery - that usually surrounds a compact, "hard" and Cartesian core having the role of an intermediate space generally used for social contact and relationship with the surrounding nature - for example, Hotel Ştefănescu, with which Vila Sylva has a direct visual relationship. The project aims to adapt these architectural reasons to fit the required spaces, using new constructive techniques.
