Craiova Step UP - Participatory Urbanism
Project description
Craiova Step Up represents the confluence of particular and collective forces, a civil initiative that combines proved ideas with a collaborative process with the goal of connecting the local needs and the local strategies. The whole strategy is build around the concept of participatory urbanism, the main reference being the European Charter of Participatory Democracy in Spatial Planning Processes, Dublin, 2015. We aim at the improvement of the sense of belonging to the place, thereby achieving an active community with a common future oriented vision. The first project will take the form of a micromobility system, consisting of alternative transport corridors, points of individual interest and polarizing urban nuclei. We identified three alternative transport rings: A - the outer ring becomes the green city belt, B - the ring that pierces all the neighborhoods connects the local communities of Craiova, C - the inner ring delimits and intersects in different places the central area of the city, it is the one to be used touristically the most. In the past tow years, we have taken part in a series of working meeting, webinars, conferences and actions in the public space, which facilitated our first encounter with the local public administration representatives in July 2020, with the purpose of introducing the alternative transport strategy in the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan and in the Integrated Urban Development Strategy through a type of public-private partnership. Other important interactions include the webinars for developing Romania's first Urban Policy by the Ministry of Public Works, Development and Administration and the World Bank and the workshop for the elaboration of an Action Plan for the Green City of Craiova, organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Green Cities, the latter materialized in a set of 13 strategic objectives by July 2020. We believe that perseverance, passion and love for the city will help us to implement the three corridors of bike lanes, together with the entire system of micromobility that defines them, therefore orienting the city towards the people and ensuring the accumulation of positive experiences and a good coexistence.

Craiova Step UP is a constantly expending community, multidisciplinary through the diversity of active members, participants in working meetings organized and coordinated by the team consisting of: arch.urb Adela Trif, arch.Iulia Periețeanu, arch.Mihai Trif, the core of elaboration and promotion of the Craiova Step UP initiative.
