Public space
Light son(g)s
Project description
The relationship with the urban public space, the awareness of the right of use or the need for energy exchange between its users is almost undefined in the public space in Romania. At the same time, young people, to whom this laudable initiative is addressed in the Culture smiles - Lay’s – youth to youth program, tend to get lonely and build their own virtual worlds in absence of other tools. The project proposed by the Timișoara team, following a multidisciplinary workshop, seeks to offer some solutions to these trends: - aligns with an initiative to open to the city one of the most interesting houses in the public space - The Ivy House; - recovers the access on the property as sign that releases the boundary (removing the existing fence) to the green space of the thematic south park of Bega; - uses fire (at night) as an urban magnet in the proposed installation / object; - relies on sound as playful defining in the presence of the user. Located in the area of the Student Complex, the object, whose limit is formed by the metal pipe that takes over the rhythm of the neighboring trees, metallic "trees" that burn in the night time, is an axis mundi and at the same time a gateway to a non-existent (removed) physically limit. Its dual function, gathering around the fire between limits and returning to the park for a tea or a sound meetings it takes place in a removable object made of metal and wood, robust but fine at the same time where the steel is lacquered directly after processing and the wood is recovered from demolished structures finished with linseed oil. Ephemeral but stable, recoverable and unusual, discreet but magnetic, the object full of sound shades remains an urban experiment that reconsiders the approach to playfulness full of vitality. The near future will confirm this or not.
