Built space
Events Pavilion Buziaș
Project description
The „Thesaurus” vineyard is situated on the top of Silagius hills, south-east from Buzias city. The hills are commanding magnificent views of the city and surrounding areas. Reborn a decade ago, the domain is producing remarkable wines, incorporating the quality of the „terroir” and the dedicated efforts of a gifted winemaker. Years ago a house was built near the cime, deftly exploring the advantages of its position (arch. Geta Trambitas). In 2018 the owners decided to enhance the attractivity of the property by developing a space for events and a new wine cellar cum premium lodging. Our proposal was to position the main space just under the top of the hill, surrounded by the vineyard; and the wine cellar at the lowest corner of the propriety near the access road. We proposed a light, low pavilion, partially surrounding the existing house - as a connecting presence between the wine cellar and the greater event hall. The destination of the pavilion was to host small size, open-air social events, putting people in contact with the vineyard, the house and the future developments. We choose wood as the main material, and the simple, explicit and well-proportioned post and beam structure as the principal means of expression. The pavilion has some glass panels engraved with „Thesaurus” logo, filleting the distant views; it can be completely open and/or closed to the surroundings, using dark wood folding and sliding louvers. Zenithal light enters the pavilion tough rhythmically disposed skylights. Carefully designed, the restraint structure is displaying some elegant metal details enhancing its intended simple but refined atmosphere. Unfortunately, the owners decided to stop the major developments, so the pavilion survived as a single piece in a modified scenery.
