Wine Rax
Project description
Every stylish living room needs to have a wine rack in order for the inhabitants to savor a glass of wine while enjoying their newly purchased Samsung TV. “Wine Rax” is a relatively petite wine shelf that can be kept nearby and easily transported to any other room of choice. This shelf cannot only store wine in it, but any other desired beverage. We were inspired by the existent wine racks in our homes and by the different ways of mending pieces of cardboard together. That being the case, the support is made out of four cardboard rectangles, wide enough to fit a wine bottle inside, two of which have two perpendicular cuts for them to horizontally slide into the other two vertical ones. The “X” is made out of two rectangles with cuts starting at the middle of one of their sides and ending halfway through their width. The two rectangles are inserted one into the other, and this structure is then inserted into the initial square frame.

Some reasons why it is more beneficial to use cardboard would be that it comes from renewable resources, while plastic uses fossil fuels; decomposes faster than plastic; It has a much higher recycling rate. Cardboard packaging keeps food fresh longer. Cardboard packaging is also more aesthetic and therefore more attractive to buyers as designers can experiment with the function, various mechanisms such as fastening, closing etc. and of course with graphics. It can also be a shelter for street people and animals, being cheap, light in weight and can be assembled by anyone. The most common cardboard boxes can be a whole universe for young children. There is even a type of furniture dedicated to them, called playful furniture. Our team used both corrugated and unilayered cardboard in making products that we entered in competitions (Samsung x Dezeen Out Of The Box and Pro Carton
