Restoring the spirit of the place in the old inter-war buildings, refunctionalized in the communist and post-communist period
Project description
The theme of my project aims to rework the old interwar buildings refurbished during the communist and post-communist period, which is why the chosen architectural program presents a villa-type unit. The space that is going to be designed, is located on the ground floor of the Mocioni-Teleki’s palace. It is located in Birchis commune, Arad county. It is currently a private psychiatric hospital. The concept is based on bringing back the spirit of the palace through a tourist area with a villa-type unit that presents on the ground floor various activities and cultural events, using the emblematic elements for which the palace stood out, namely the collection of butterflies and exotic insects. Count Teleki's valuable library, as well as the family's passion for music, especially piano. This way was born the idea of the wing of the butterfly. The project aims to bring back the spirit of the palace, and thus become a tourist area, but also a hosting place for those who visit it, implementing the butterfly motif for various spaces and functions of the palace. The ground floor level has temporal cultural events, which is why it hosts an event room, a library area next to a reading area, an interactive exhibition of butterflies and insects, and an exhibition of musical. The designing proposal creates interactive events in order to give people a unique experience. The whole project idea will be accomplished through new, modern technology, through electronic devices that allow you to explore and analyze each element in detail. At the same time, the plan on the 1st floor illustrates the sleeping areas. Therefore, the new interventions are clear, well-defined, and at the same time able to create their structure. Also, the exhibition spaces will benefit from a new structure. They host new interactive panels which will be present both on a technological device and physically the exhibitions of butterflies and insects along with the exhibition of musical instruments. Also, the exhibitions present in the spaces have an educational purpose, because the people who will step inside will have the opportunity to learn and explore an essential period of history. At the same time, the neoclassical architectural elements and the original interior lighting found in the two halls at the entrance will be highlighted.
